what do y'all think of getting gg some formula for the trip? i ask for a few reasons, although she's been drinking cow's milk for four months
( Read more... )
I'd probably take the formula just in case. There is full fat (in Kanuckian parlance its called Homo milk, y'all) milk sold in both BUF and BWI at various places in the terminal. At BWI though you'll be restricted to the Southwest terminal, unless you want to go through screening again, but I do recall the conveniency store there has Homo milk.
Just an FYI: There's somewhat decent food at Buffalo (the breakfast at the diner place there is decent - just past the security checkpoint)... BWI not so much (ick!).
screening's going to be a pain, due to baby, bottles, cane (ankle acting up) and ahab's cpap machine. i don't want to go through it twice! bwi is so big, why don't they have decent food? we're going to be there 4 hours!!!!! ugh.
I spoke too soon, it appears they've (vastly) improved the food selection: http://www.bwiairport.com/pdfs/BWI_ABweb.pdf (and the overall set up). Au Bon Pain will have salads though I find them a little pricy for what you get.
Can you not request milk while you're on the plane? I don't remember if they carry it or not. Hey, they might even have chocolate. But if not, I know they have juice.
If I were you I would bring what she likes ... if she will still drink formula and likes it, bring it because you can bring more. If you bring all the formula and then she refuses it, well, you're up a creek. It's just one day, she could even drink juice or whatever (or 2% milk! Just for that day!), as long as there's something in her tummy and something to pop her ears.
she won't drink juice, and she'll drink any milk but (per james) they don't have it. she'd probably drink chocolate milk but ugh... i just can't do it. we could buy it once we get through, but then there's the nutrition thing... ugh. being a mom is hard!!!!
Wait, you'll give her lollipops but not chocolate milk? Silly Shell. She can go without perfect nutrition for one day. Your stress level will thank me.
They have formulas for older babies don't they (Damon is too old to have been part of those times). If it's going to make the trip easier, go with it. It's not going to hurt her by any means. And remember that although there is some added sugar in chocolate milk, it is still milk, and will do in a pinch. I suspect finding the Homo milk is going to be a problem tho since most places have 2% now, but again, as long as she'll drink it, it's not going to hurt her to miss out on the milk fat for couple of days you're flying. Now whether she'll drink it - that's something else entirely.
And since the poor muffin has a cold too, make sure she's got something to suck on - those lollypops will work...I've done the upset toddler at take off thing and it's no fun.
I wouldn't stress too much on the nutrition issues during the travel time -- it's not for very long, and GG wouldn't be damaged long term even if she had nothing but kool aid and dark chocolate for a couple of days!
The advantage that I see to formula is that you can carry the powder and that makes things a lot easier during transportation through the airport. You can just buy a bottle of water inside the terminal and mix it there, which saves you from lugging lots of liquid around through security.
On the other hand, we just weaned Elisa off of bottles and formula over the past 10 days, and I'm delighting in not have to carry bottles around any more!
what are you giving her instead of bottles? we give gracie sippy cups, but she hates them, and when she gets a big kid cup, she pours water all over herself. *sigh*
Please, no brainer. Take some toddler formula, but don't sweat any of it. X wouldn't eat for three days last week after the massive illness, but is now fine and dandy. When truly hungry, she'll eat. Healthy kids can take a lot of disruption in a short period. Sippy cups might take repeated efforts to introduce. One thing for you to test is how fast can you drink from it. I found that X rejected sippy cups that were TOO HARD to suck from. Like, worse than a thick milkshake. So, he was rejecting all that effort for so little reward. You might have to test different brands (which sucks b/c cups are $$$), but they'll be one she likes eventually.
Whenever X sees a GG icon or we mention her, he's all "GG's house! Dixie! Lillow!" He's really obsessed with the dogs.

Orange juice, apple juice, tomato juice, c'est tout for child-appropriate beverages.
