So there's this type of vinegar-based bbq that is very popular, tho I never really encountered it until I moved here. It's called "hash" and is kinda like shredded bbq...a very fine shred. It's usually served over rice, I assume bc the texture is so, um, runny. It's not my fav, but if it's hot/spicy enough, it's not so bad ( Read more... )

That's a fairly accurate map - it looks like our county is divided between tomato and vinegar. I remember being completely shocked by the vinegar pepper bbq I got from some church thing in Cheraw. Loved it, though, once I got over my shock.

Some of the BBQ places up here serve bbq hash. The description always skeeves me out, so I don't know if it's any good, or even if my perception of it is correct. But I think around here it is a gloppy, greasy combo of pulled pork and pulled beef, or possibly just a mash-up of various icky bits of beef/pork. I don't know if little cups of bbq sauce are provided with the hash. I get the shivers thinking about it, and not the good kind of shivers!

Stuart's hash has to be better, red bell pepper or hot red pepper. I bet his next batch will be awesome.
