Investigator
Innim Tan's voyage here had not been easy. Portal travel was a well-kept secret in his time, a matter of paying off the right underworld figures and moving through the right slums. Not that it mattered. He had hunted this criminal for two years, and he was confident he'd take care of the matter at last.
Hopefully.
A quick scan of the records had indicated that the Dean of Students might be the most useful place to start - after all, in all likelihood, the assassin was hiding among the children while he could.
He knocked. It was only polite.
Anakin
"WHAT NOW?" Anakin bellowed.
Politely.
Investigator
"I wish to speak with you in the name of the Republic," Innim said, pressing close to the door because he didn't particularly want to shout back at the Dean. "It's a matter of great urgency."
Anakin
Anakin had a bad feeling this was related to his previous encounter, but he had to be certain. "Which Republic? We're a multidimensional school. There are a few students from various republics."
Investigator
That... gave him pause for a moment.
"The Galactic Republic," he said after a moment. "Unless you require more specificity."
Anakin
"A year would help," Anakin admitted with a wry quirk of his lips.
Investigator
"It is the year 32,497 after the Tho Yor Arrival," Innim offered. "Will you please let me in?"
Anakin
Wow, that was a long time ago. Anakin nodded his head. "You may close the door, too."
Investigator
Innim stepped inside and shut the door. "I am an investigator sent to track down escaped Sith war criminals," he said. "A lead has drawn me to your island."
Anakin
It was a good thing Anakin knew when the investigator was from, or he would have been looking a lot guiltier right now.
"I ran into a couple on my way back from coffee," he offered. "That was new and unwelcome."
Investigator
The investigator frowned. "A couple...?" he said. "I'm tracking just the one. My sources say he must have been here for at least two years."
Anakin
Anakin's hackles rose. "Really. What does he look like?"
Names could change, after all.
Investigator
Innim reached for a small device. With a few presses, it projected an image.
At the same time, across the island, Atton's presence winked out of the Force.
Anakin
"Sithspit," Anakin snarled.
Investigator
"You know him?"
Anakin
"Yeah," he said shortly. "He's Sith? His surliness seemed more generally teenaged than galaxy-destroying."
And Anakin would just kick himself forever for having a Sith under his nose all these years.
Investigator
"He served under Revan as an assassin for over a year," Innim said, folding his hands together. "Then he vanished rather abruptly. We didn't have the time or manpower until now to start tracking these criminals down."
Anakin
Anakin reached up to massage a sudden headache. "Of course. Don't kill him where other students can see it, please."
Investigator
The investigator stared at him in mild confusion. "Kill him? I plan to arrest him," he said. "We're not animals."
Anakin
"Mistakes happen," Anakin said with a shrug. "I just wanted to make myself explicit."
Investigator
Innim shook his head, but decided not to make much of it. He was on this man's territory. "Would you happen to know his whereabouts, or at least known safehouses and associates?"
Anakin
Anakin closed his eyes. "I don't feel him on the island, but that doesn't mean much. I'd start with the dormitory, then try the warehouse district. I can check in with some students who might have seen him, too."
Anakin
Anakin pulled out the student directory after the investigator had left, then dialed Sia's number.
"Pick up, pick up..."
Sia
Sia had just spent some time hiding a couple bodies so some random passerby didn't freak out when they saw them, but when she picked up, she seemed completely calm. "Yes?"
Anakin
"This is Master Skywalker," Anakin replied. "Are you able to talk?"
Not being kidnapped or assaulted at the moment, for instance?
Sia
"For the moment, at least," she replied, and left it at that right now. You didn't just go about announcing that you'd just killed a couple people without knowing why someone was calling.
Anakin
"Can you get to my office?"
You know, for no real reason.
"There's a...situation."
Sia
She was going to go ahead and guess that this was connected, then. "I'll be right there," she said, and hung up to make her way over to the school.
Anakin
Anakin spent that time checking in on Cade and offering quick advice on how to dump a body off a cliff and make sure it didn't wash up on shore in a week.
Anakin had some really special knowledge.
He then closed his eyes and tried to meditate to tamp down on the swell of rage he felt every time he realized a Sith had been under his nose all of these years.
Yes, he knew that was hypocritical of him. No, he didn't much care.
Sia
Sia got to the office, still fairly calm, all things considered. She was fairly used to people trying to kill her, and if an authority figure knew anything about it, that made her problems slightly easier. She wasn't known for panic anyway.
"What's this situation?"
Anakin
"There's Sith on the island," Anakin said without preamble, "from a time before mine where they work in groups."
Sia
"I know. I was just attacked by a couple of them," she said, pulling the lightsaber she'd stolen from the one from her belt and setting it on his desk.
Sith from before Anakin's time who wanted to give someone a message? Yeah, that didn't leave a lot of options for who they wanted to give that message to.
Anakin
Anakin's eyes met hers after resting briefly on the lightsaber. "Do you know where he is? There's someone else on the island who's looking to chat."
Sia
"No," she said honestly. "Who else is here?"
Anakin
"A Republic investigator," Anakin said. "He's looking for a Sith hiding among the student population."
Sia
Sia had a bad feeling about this, but she'd rather cut to the chase and have all the information. "What else did he tell you?"
Anakin
"He showed me a holo that looked a lot like Mr. Rand," Anakin added.
Sia
"You're telling me Atton's supposed to be a Sith," she said bluntly.
Anakin
Anakin nodded. "He said Mr. Rand was hired help for Darth Revan, if that's a name that's made it to your time. He's a bit of a...complicated tale."
Sia
Sia waved her hand to cut off any possible explanation of that complicated tale, because she didn't care. What mattered to her was that the hired hand bit actually made sense in context of what she knew of Atton's past and what he was like now.
"I'm going to kill him."
At the moment, she wasn't sure how serious she was about that.
Anakin
"Not in front of any other students," Anakin said.
He was the best Dean of Students.
Sia
She wasn't even acknowledging that because she wasn't new. "I can try to find him. Let me know if you do?"
Anakin
Anakin nodded. "Let me give you my number," he said, holding his hand out for her comm. "And be careful. We don't know he might react to this."
Sia
She handed over her comm, but said, "I can handle it."
Anakin
"I don't doubt it," Anakin said with a tiny smile, "I've known a few Fels. But humor me anyway."
Sia
Sia raised an eyebrow and held her hand out for her comm. "If I need you, I'll let you know."
That was the same as humoring him, right?
Anakin
Close enough?
"That's fair," he said. "May the Force be with you. Keep an eye out for the investigator and any other spare Sith."
