I'm trying to find more images from 1590-1600. I've been researching a few accessories and in the Janet Arnold book she talks about rebatos and standing collars, but the examples are from 1610. The clothes for hubby have stalled just a smidge. I'm worried that the slight stretch my mock-up fabric had fooled me into thinking I had enough ease to deal with with the layers in doublet. It fits, but barely. The buttons will be on the edge anyway, but it will still be a tight fit. I also had an issue with how the wings were turning out. I ( Read more... )

I've been doing some productive sewing during my break. :) I have made 4 petticoats (3 linen and 1 wool) and I'm working on a new pair of bodies. The bodies is wool, denim (for strength), and cable ties. It's a bit big in the tummy so I'm going to finish putting in the eyelets and refit the seams before I put the binding on it. Now that I'm finished with school it's time to work on some SCA projects I don't have time for during the semester. I need a dress for a Court of Love event in February, so I'm making some lace for the stomacher and cuffs and I'm making some edge lace for a ruff (although I'm okay if I don't finish that before the event).

Finished my first project using the techniques learned in my new book. Came together like a dream. Made a few mistakes, but it is easily corrected in the next one. I'm going to have do some experimenting with dying the cotton thread later. I would like to make a black trimmed collar. :)

My grandmother died on Wednesday last week. It has been a very painful experience. I loved my grandmother very much (both of my grandparents really). My grandmother influenced everything from the clothes I wore (she had incredible taste in clothing, shoes, and hats), to my sewing. She was a hairdresser for years until she retired.
