Ack. Turns out watching two alternately frightened and overly inquisitive (as in "Can I jump to that?") kitties will wipe out even a long weekend

Oh dear. I think it can take a little while for an animal to figure out the right spot in a new place--hopefully that's all you have going on. If your tuxedo cats were at all incontinent toward the end, he might also have been marking a spot where one of them went. Good luck--if you want any advice from someone who has worked with ferals, I can put you in touch with Barbi. I know she'd be happy to help.
Thanks! I've got an email in to their foster mom to see if she has any ideas, but it would be great to have Barbi's advice. Wilson's been really good about the box as far as I know--he's even several times used the box with the litter I want to use, the clumping stuff I've used for ages. He does have a history of eliminating when he's upset; on the other hand, his carrier is a huge thing, big enough for a small litter box, and he uses the box in there even when he's freaked out by the car. I guess I'm worried about Avery since his upbringing probably didn't involve much adherence to litterbox etiquette whether he was in or outside (the house he came from wound up being condemned) and I'm not sure whether a couple of months in a fostering situation has quite convinced him it's really important

Ah, yes - the stealth pee. My dog still does that on (very rare) occasions. Considering the amount of time I'm at work, I suppose that's only fair she gets to express her displeasure every now and then.
If it's a short term thing, relating to the new house, anxiety, frustration, my placing the boxes somewhere they don't like, etc., that's no problem. I'm just hoping it doesn't mean one or the other is noncommittal about the litter box and thinks socks are the best indoor substitute for leaves and dirt.
I haven't gotten far down in my catching up so I hope there are photos in here as well *somewhere*! I did very little online all weekend and sorry we didn't get to chat! I am keeping my fingers crossed this is only a short term thing!

I'm not sure what it's called, but it's at virtually every pet store - in white bottles with red lettering, I think. It really works.
Nature's Miracle! And yes! That stuff is awesome... though sometimes, depending on the type of accident, it smells *really* funky until it dries... but it does work wonders! I had issues with my old basset hound pee'ing in our sunroom awhile back - we cleaned up the "offending areas" and doused everything really good with the nature's miracle and have had no issues since.
