Geez, Craig, you couldn't have given up a gopher when WE were there? ;-)
Jacoby's current haircut REALLY makes me picture him in a WWII movie as the Baby-Face GI Who's Too Young To Die. "I'm hit... Tell Sally... I love her..."
Local news last night talking about Jacoby and showed his great catch last night. Local = SF. Sports guy admitted their producer is a Red Sox fan so often will pick Red Sox plays for the day's top 5 highlights. They then proceeded to banter about Jacoby Ellsbury and what a great baseball name it was. I found this amusing.
Jed looks a lot more mature to me, too. I assume it's a combination of actually getting older and facing the issues of the majors--instead of working his way up, he's facing position battles and injury.
I...kinda melted when I saw Jed. Okay, really melted. Big time.
The shot of Lars is gorgeous! I'm so, so glad we were able to hang onto him today...I was scared he'd be traded! (The loss of Masterson makes me cry, though.)
I know they had to make a move, and I know most of "my" guys were spared, and I know it makes sense from a baseball perspective... but Masterson is a rare sort, and I'm crushed. Heck, just yesterday the tape they usually run of different players reading (in stilted fashion) the Fenway Code of Conduct was ALL Justin, and he was hilarious. I can't help but wonder if some tough clubhouse situations--playing time, Papi's issues, etc.--are going to be tougher without him around.
It's been a tough year to shoot Jed! Even on his rehab stints he was hard to find.
I just...want to cry. So much. Justin was my favorite pitcher on this team, and he's just such a warm, wonderful person. I can't imagine this team without him right now. (Jed must be in tears.) He just made everything so much more congenial and fun...
I happened to catch him in Pawtucket (I was in RI the week he bounced around to about 500 million minor league teams), and I just had a total heart attack because I was afraid I was going to miss him...
