First, this is your way of trying to say you would like to reestablish a friendship. This I would welcome, though not without some caution. My email addresses are also the same and I am open to dialog.
Or, your perceived responsibility toward social decorum includes rote Thank you and Congratulatory notes, but not conflict resolution. Rather repudiation of friendship without discussion. Be this the case, you are welcome to continue your previously chosen course. For myself, formality, without the foundation of friendship, is little more than pretense.
