Party Like It's 1995

I went to a concert last Saturday. Our Lady Peace, Bush, and Live at a county fair not far from here. I graduated from high school in 1996 and was as obsessed with music back then as I am now, so I was pretty much drowning in nostalgia at this show ( Read more... )

Absolutely! Haha I'm stuck in a 90s grunge and alt-rock rut now. :)

I should be a good Canadian and say that I like Our Lady Peace but... they have never been a favourite of mine. I wouldn't go to one of their concerts because I routinely like songs that are off of... maybe their first two albums. I like Starseed, Naveed and One Many Arm for the bass. (always the bass for me). And, another quirk, I do like unique voices, but there's something about his voice that bugs me ( ... )

The voice is a big part of why I didn't get into them at first, too, but for whatever reason, I can't get enough of the Naveed album now that I've seen them live. I listened to Clumsh all the way through afterward as well but am not as fond of that one.

Ugh I wanted to catch the Revolution 3 tour so bad. The Cult and STP are among my all-time favorite rock bands and I love Jeff Gutt as STP's new frontman but I just couldn't make it happen. I've seen both bands on great nights though, so I can't complain much. A friend caught the stop at Red Rocks in Colorado and said everybody including Bush was great, and that's part of why I decided to go to this show.

It's good to hear you saw Live and really liked them. That does make me want to catch them again.

I saw Bush right at the beginning and did not think they were good in concert at all. Well, I suppose it's been a few years and they've had a chance to get good at it.

Your words about Live resonate. I was a fan and then a big fan and then I think I got burned out on them. Still, now that time has passed, I wouldn't mind revisting them again.

Yeah, I'm willing to bet they've gotten a lot better since then. I realized years ago through experience that I tend to prefer seeing a band when they've been around for 10 or more years over when they're just starting out, although I have seen some killer performances by new and fledgling bands as well. The band has more time to perfect their live shows, they often take voice lessons and sing better after some time, and they sometimes become more reliable with maturity. Oh, and of course there's a larger pool of material of course.

I honestly have only revisited Throwing Copper in its entirety but man, is that a great album. My disdain from overexposure has warn off and I even enjoy "Lightning Crashes" now, which I couldn't stand as a teenager.
