I was thinking of things to write about on here tonight, and decided not to update with a story of my characteristic 'change of mind' regarding getting a job in Japan. I was going to write this whole clever thing about me dropping the 'corporate ideal' and becoming a bohemian parasite, a gonzo '2-yr diploma' journalist, a penniless artist. ( Read more... )

Good story! I've never seen Nick Cave live, but I was told a story I thought was funny a few years ago. A few friends of mine were huge Cave fans, & went to see him. None of them remembered the name of the opening band, but they were supposedly quite bad, & one of the guys fell asleep almost as soon as they went on stage. About halfway through their set, he woke up & yelled, "Play something good!" He had a really loud voice, & another friend sitting all the way up in the balcony heard him, over all the other noise in the concert hall. Then, he fell asleep right away again.

Heh heh, that sucks! I always feel sorry for a bad band, especially when you can tell they know they're bad but the struggle onwards anyways. We were lucky, we had a kinda cool local group, alternative country dudes more on the side of singing about highschool and dating than bats in the barn or hook-weilding serial killers roaming the American South. Hmmm, come to think of it, maybe they weren't such a good band :P

Found you through the Lynch Community.

I don't know the answer to either question, but mind if I add you?

Bro, I just found out that Robbie Robertson wrote The Night They Drove Ole Dixie Down. I had no idea. I always thought it was an old folk song from the Civil War days.
He's a bloody good writer.

Yeah, I found that too when I was looking up chords for it the other day. It's funny, because I always though Joan Baez wrote it, heh heh, since her's is the only version I've known up until now.

I almost got 'Last Waltz' the other day but HMV had it for like 12-15$. FutureShop is advertising theres for like $8, but they didnt have it instore. I might just break down, moses, and buy it online.

Go back to work you mamaluke!

Wow...I'm at a loss. That's a great tale; I actually laughed loudly at the ending (which is rude and whatnot, considering I'm in a computer lab and supposed to be mouse-quiet).

Do you really think Nick would go that far? Aren't his devil-eyed glares and superhuman growls enough to convince us all of his bad seedity?

It takes a true voyeur to be willing to shit on another's shoes, I always said.

By the way, that awkward in-between phase with the hair? Somehow, that look is endearing, the sweet mid-life crisis aspect of it. :)

Heh heh, well, when your in Toronto, sights like that are pretty much part of the landscape. When I was there last, I was walking on the street and watched as three people passed me, screaming to themselves, though they weren't together... it just happened that they passed by at the same time. It was oddly similar to a dream I had once. Nope, I dont think this one was one St Nicks payroll.

Nick's devil-eyed glares are something I wish I could employ, as is a persona that people would find menacing and dark. Instead, people walk away chuckling heartily, so I think I'll play off of that.
