In the Land of Ghosts and Snow

Jan 18, 2005 01:34

Howdy. This past weekend I visited my sister and bro-in-law in Illinois. They live in a small, I say, small town about an hour outside of Chicago. Its a nice place to visit, with a main street that reminded me of old west ghost towns and a kind of quiet, sleepy friendliness one can always find in the citizens of quaint midwest dwellings ( Read more... )

I don't have any photo's of the place, though I wish now I did. The town is called Gridley (I left the name out of the post so as not to embarrass anyone, but I dont think they would be) and is not so much a town as its a street with a bank. It was especially cool this time of year with the snow on the ground. Coming off the highway onto these small country roads with the sun going down and no steet lights at all made for a really neat effect. Before we got to my sisters house, we took a wrong turn into a small mennonite community (Morning Meadows or something just as obvious) and i just couldn't get 'Children of the Corn' out of my head. I'm going to have to ask my sister to take some photo's for me.

Hey bro,
You're totally welcome to sleep at our place. Chances are you'll have to crash on the couch, which Corinne does when she comes up. If the professor who stays in the room on the first floor isn't in Toronto the day you're here, you can sleep there. It's a small apartmentish room.

Sounds absolutely fascinating. I am a firm believer, and have been ever since I started experiecing weird stuff in our house from when i about 14. Could go on & on about the stories and stuff i've heard/seen in that house. My mum then admitted it was happening in the house before i was even born ( ... )

It's certainly a bizarre piece of American Hauntery. When I first heard the story and got to know my brother in law, doubts seeped into my mind. It could have easily been a prank, or a straight lie from him designed to upset our visit at their house. The thing is, these stories dont stop with him. His parents have stories of something pulling the bed sheets right off them while they slept during the night, and his neices have suffered from night paralysis, where one of them felt pinned to her bed while she screamed for help. Hundreds of stories. Some explainable, but not all.

But you've actually experianced these things, and thats something I find amazing. Are you comfortable with these occurances? I'd think seeing something like that would be life changer. It'd definately twist my view on things. Do you and you're mom discuss these things? I'm definately hungry for my stories if you have the time.

Mum and I always discuss and dissect our stories. We're pretty close, so it's not an issue. I'm very comfortable with them, though I assure you not when they are happening. It's more like being stuck in a surreal moment, and it always takes you by surprise. Nothing has ever happened to me when I've expected it to, or when I've been waiting ( ... )

I'm really looking forward to this. Hope to read them soon.

These days I'm trying to get more comfortable with such things. I have no evidence at all, personal evidence, that the supernatural exists. And yet, there is that thin sheen of belief that causes my heart to beat just a little faster when I hear something that 'might have been a voice' in an empty room, or something scutter sway behind me, gone when I turn to see what it is.

I do believe that if I were to experiance something, I'd most likely go insane, my hair go all white like the dude in 'Constantine'. Is it weird that I want to work out my paranormal muscles?

Heh, funny thing is, right now I'm listening to Coast to Coast AM. Art Bell's guests are http://www.ghostpix.com/, the Ghost Investigators Society. Their going to be playing spirit voices caught on recordings. I have been warned!!!

And do me a favour...if you get a chance to go into the Black Lodge? Don't go alone ;)
