It's not like people are fucking each other in the hallways there any more than at an SCA event. It is primarily for people to hook up.. but jesus christ. 208 comments. I was boggled.
Most fur-cons I know about do involve some hooking up, but mostly that's taken to the after hours parties or into special areas. even the vendor tables have special sections where "adult only" art, films, and such can be kept away from the kiddies.
I've literally tripped over people fucking at both and SCA event and a Renn faire (in fact I was the one tripped over in one instance) when children were awake and everything.
my point is that all of these events are about equally child friendly (which is to say as child friendly as the person throwing them wants them to be) and as such people should be aware of the bullshit they spout before having hard facts, experience, or evidence.
I think she was whining about some kid (not hers) screaming in a store of some sort, and comparing that to her little angel who she takes to furry cons who's never ever done that sort of thing and its all because her parenting is better.
She was probably just a little obnoxious at the store and the parents were pissy, and then to go treat geekparents to a snarkfest pissed people off more.
And yeah, some jackass on geekparents points out that a furry con isn't a child-friendly place like, say, gymboree. Really? No shit? Neither is the grocery store, the movie theater, or just about any other public place you take your kids to. Sure, furry cons are known for getting a bit raunchy at times, as are any niche gatherings of adults, but that's generally after hours in private spaces. Not in front of kids.
yeah..her original post can die in a fire. "Omg my kids are so well behaved omg" but the whole like..bullshit with regard to different events just pisses me off to no end. ignorance should be fucking painful.
I went to Big Apple Comic Con last weekend and was surprised at the number of artists in artist alley who had nudity in their drawings on display. So really nowhere is safe if you get right down to it.
On the other hand, to the majority of people outside of the subculture Furries are associated with sex so I can see at least where some of them are coming from, even if it is an uninformed place.
1. (n) Facial hair that does not exist on the face, but instead on the neck. Almost never well groomed.
2. (n) Derogatory term for slovenly nerdy people who have no sense of hygene or grooming. Often related to hobbies such as card gaming, video gaming, anime, et. al.
