  1. I've been sick for the last week. All snuffly and coughing and feverish. I've actually had sweats and chills at night - not fun. But I'm starting to feel better. I went back to work today. I like working somewhere I can swap my work days if I'm sick so I don't loose money.

  2. I'm about to be made permanent at work, which means soon I will be able ( Read more... )

aw, i'm sorry the orthotics aren't working so well for you. maybe she'll be able to help you out more in your follow-up appointment in a few weeks? do they fit in your gym shoes?

OH TAX RETURN HAY YEAH. oh, i hope i get some money back!

Yeah, it's not entirely unexpected that I have fit problems, and possibly some of it can be fixed in the follow up appointment (width, but not height). They fit my gym shoes and my big black biker boots (which are a size too big to begin with) but not any of my dress shoes, or my three other pairs of boots. But I think they're doing my feet good. And even if they're only partially helpful, that's something. And it's an excuse to buy more shoes! (Though I remember shoe shopping with orthotics frequently ended in tears when I was a kid, so...). Anyway, S is awesome. When I went to pick them up we were chatting about exercise like I do with people who know me and believe I go to the gym, not like some pathological lump being shamed into redemption by a health professional. I know what you mean about Kate and Marianne's book. The guest essays were my favorite part and I had already read them. But yes, it was a 101 not advanced. Same sort of reaction I had to Big Big Love.

Ah, Big Big Love was one of the first things I read, so it was all excitement and revelation to me at the time.

That said, I do think Screw Inner Beauty is good. And important. I've even bought a second copy and given it away as a present. I just...want more. I think what I really want is fats.com in book form, rather than shapely prose, yaknow?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I definitely think it's a worthwhile, momentous book. But something a little more complex (like the guest essays) suits me better. It's probably got a lot to do with the fact that I've been doing this for awhile and have thought about it a lot and ALSO that I'm all weirdo academic. Some of the more academic-ish posts from Shapely Prose would do me fine, but I will say I have been loving Lesley's fats contributions lately. Overall I'm happy I have something in book form that I can quote to make my academic assertions more legitimate.

I think mostly because I wanted more from the book but I don't think it's a fair expectation to burden what is basically a fat acceptance 101 intro with, so I'm not sure where to go with it.

I haven't finished yet - in fact, I'm only in chapter 3 as there was some pressing YA that needed reading - but these are my thoughts exactly.

*coughs pathetically*

But yeah, who would have thought that the secret would be to work for an org that actively and deliberately does good in the world rather than chases profits? Astonishing!
