I don't know any particular netting you can put over a planter - if a squirrel is determined enough, it'll chew through just about anything. You *might* have luck keeping it closer to the house where the traffic is higher, but no guarantees.
Thank you! I have decided not to waste my money on netting, so this helps me justify that decision. The other thing is that I have spent less on the flowers than a roll of netting would cost!
I was at the hair cuttery yesterday. One of the stylists heard me talking about my flower issue, and he said to spread soap shavings (of a strong deoderant soap like Dial or Irish Spring) and the "human" scent would discourage most animals from one's gardens, etc. I figured, soap is cheap, I'm going to try it.
My little boy will probably have more fun shaving the soap then he will planting the flowers! Anything fun and out of the house is a good activity, in my book =)

Exactly! I'd not heard about using soap, but it makes sense. It'll be entertaining, regardless.
