Biggest layoff in company history today. My department hasn't been touched yet, a testament to how lean I've always run things. Still, we've shed so many people over the last year, and it keeps accelerating. They were cutting fat; now it's muscle, and if the auto industry doesn't rebound soon, it'll be bones getting cut before summer.

I work at a manufacturing company in the East Bay. A good deal of what we make ends up at NUMMI. NUMMI's recent emergency production cutbacks mean that our situation has become an emergency, thus the large layoffs today.

We usually don't do Wednesdays, but this is a case where management is dodging bullets as fast as they can, and can't really pick the times for this.

This post follows a friend of mine's from North Carolina. Some of her office mates are packing up their cubes. She's been working for IBM for the last couple years. o.O

I've been trying to contact our AT&T account rep for a couple of days to turn off the phone service in the building that we're closing as a part of this mess. Oddly, he hadn't gotten back to me at all, which was weird. Today, I found out he was laid off. Our new account team is based in Atlanta. We're in California, for crying out loud! Service fail, AT&T.
