This entry is boring but since I finished it I might as well post it.

For lunch yesterday, I had a bacon-avocado burger and steak fries. Spent the rest of the day in a carb coma, and only started feeling peckish enough for a light dinner at about 11 PM. It's not just because I'm unused to it, either -- E. was cracking jokes about being too sleepy for the drive back to Geneva. (I told him to pull over if he needed to and e-mail me when he got home. He's fine.)

I'd say, "Holy Cow!" but that was actually the name of the restaurant. Tourists take note; it's somewhat expensive for a burger joint (20 CHF for the entire meal), but well worth it for both the quality and quantity of food. The fries were delicately crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, the bun was tasty enough to eat in its own right, and the patty was perfectly seasoned to go with its toppings. Swiss beef is a running joke in my family for its mediocrity but I was pleasantly surprised -- the texture was a little different from what you'd find in an American restaurant, but no complaints. Of course, it was a ground patty and not a steak, but still. Maybe there's been a turnaround recently.

In other news, I had to explain Twitter to other dad the other day. "And you have a facebook too?" he said afterwards, in tones of incredulity.

Other than that, I can't say I've been doing much lately. My sleep schedule's been really off, so I've been ... not nesting, exactly, not if nesting involves a lot of lakeside walks, but definitely withdrawing a bit. I don't know; it's possible I'm still recovering from the trip even though I've been back almost two months already. I've been catching up on a lot of backlogged TV -- Dexter, Merlin, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and, biting the bullet, the last Sarah Jane Adventures serial -- because in April not one, not two, but four shows I want to watch are either starting or picking up another season, and I want to clear my media plate. Very excited for Legend of Korra and Game of Thrones season 2, casually looking forward to more A:EMH, and warily interested in Ultimate Spider-Man, which could either be a fun formula-breaker or a complete mess.

I did see The Artist recently, coincidentally on the day of the Oscars, and enjoyed it tremendously. It's one of those films that succeeds in being both nostalgic and contemporary at the same time, and manages to be simple without being simplistic. Most impressively, it actually induced my father to accompany my mother to the cinema to see it, which is ... pretty much unheard of. (He thinks most movies are boring and formulaic, and in a cynical sense he's not wrong, but his standards are less "high" so much as "not very open-minded.") I think I could count the number of times I can remember him going to the movies in my lifetime on one hand with fingers to spare. Anyway, they both enjoyed it, and Dad actually agreed to go with me to the movies sometime in the near future. Except, of course, there's nothing coming out anytime soon except The Hunger Games and next month, The Avengers -- it comes out a little over a week earlier here than in the US -- neither of which I'd imagine he wants to see...

And a couple hopefully-interesting links:
Fossil penguins were kind of terrifying.
Forty minute slideshow of background art from Miyazaki films set to music from same.
