Well, I've heard several positive reviews for The Amazing Spider-Man from friends whose taste I trust and critics who had similar concerns to mine (the "dead dad angst," etc). Plus people are going to keep asking me what I thought of the movie until I actually go and see it -- I'm surprised I haven't gotten askbox messages from FYSW readers about

I'm not going to assume that I fall in the 'friends whose taste I trust' category, but I'll throw in my two cents anyway. :)

I probably went in handwaving some of the concerns I've seen floating around (I admittedly had been swayed by Stone/Garfield's chemistry). So I liked it a lot. Most of the negative stuff I've read has been related to 'unnecessary reboot'. There are things that are changed from canon, but that happened in the first set of movies as well. Most changes I could live with. And several of the BIGDAMNSPOILERYPLOTPOINTS I was very pleased with.

I'm really interested to see what you think once you see it.
