The flytraps are actually the easiest. They like light, so anything from a windowsill to full outdoor sunlight works. Then you just keep the tray underneath them filled with about an inch of distilled or purified water (just fill it once a week or whenever it dries out - even less November through January, they'll probably go dormant and look dead anyway so they don't need as much water). And... that's it.
You don't actually need to worry about feeding them. They will find their own bugs, and they don't technically need to eat bugs anyway - they'll do fine with just sun and water.
I never knew I had a green thumb until I got completely obsessed with carnivorous plants and read anything I could about them.
Sadly, it doesn't extend to my orchid. It looks terrible and I can't get it to bloom :[ I've tried reading a lot about orchid care, too, but there's too much conflicting information.
Good to know, haha, I've been doing the exact opposite. I'll move it farther from the window and mist it instead of soaking the soil once a week.
That's funny that your sundews did so well. Mine turned to mush almost immediately - I think I had them outside in bright sun - probably should have given them a slightly less light.
That's so strange, of all my carnivorous plants the sundews did the best and the flytraps oftentimes seemed to die off... Well, they are all dead now, having been sorrowfully neglected while I travel. Boohoo. I look forward to having some more one day and looking after them super well! My sundews did great in my third year of university, when I had a south facing windowsill with them all lined up, and whenever it rained I would rush out like a madwoman with my bucket to collect the water from an overflowing gutter, hahaha. Good times!
