The rules say that de-anoned comments are not preferred, but are fine, much like the previous meme, perhaps it could be advised that flaming someone who does de-anon is not right. I know that if I were to comment de-anon in this meme I would probably be flamed, which posting in any other would get no response
( ... )
If you've seen anyone being flamed and we haven't responded, by all means, please let us know! We don't want a hostile environment for anyone, and we've been freezing any thread we've found where someone has been flamed or attacked. We do prefer people to stay anonymous, as a large number of posters to the last kinkmeme expressed a problem with people de-anoning, but we don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable here.
The culture of other kinkmemes isn't necessarily relevant, though. Our modding policy grew out of discussions on wintergameskink and on this meme, and a great number of people expressed dislike of people going non-anon, especially doing so in a way that was disrespectful to anonymous commenters. Getting hung up on the traditions of other kinkmemes seems a bit silly, since we have so much direct feedback from the participants. If the majority of commenters/ficcers here would like this meme to be run a certain way and express that, "but it's not like that on other kinkmemes!" doesn't really matter.
anon commenting
anonymous

I've seen a lot of stuff where people come after non-anon commenters. The rules don't say it's a necessity, so what's the thought process for such attacks? Is it OKAY to comment non-anon?
Re: anon commentingskatingkinkmodMay 27 2010, 17:16:19 UTC
As stated in the rules: It is preferred, but not required, that people use anon commenting. We certainly don't allow attacks on anyone for any reason, and have been trying hard to monitor for any hostility on either end, including freezing threads when necessary.
That said, commenting to encourage people to post anonymously is fine and we don't consider that to be an attack, if it's done politely, just as a reminder. This was a very polarizing issue when we started the community, with quite a lot of people on both sides of the debate (and a sizable number who didn't care either way). As mods, we're trying to be neutral, responsive to the community, and not come down on one side or another of an issue that's still being worked out. We're tying to let the anons on both side work this out themselves. The one thing the community is clear on is that they don't want any comments deleted just for being non-anon, so we won't be doing that.
I am a fan of the "At the Edges of His Shape" WIP, but I have understood why certain readers felt the need to respond to the author!anon with their discomfort about recent directions in that story.
But comments like this one (http://community.livejournal.com/skatingkink/1113.html?thread=240985#t240985) cross a line. The author!anon responded to a prompt that "Johnny is actually a girl." I can see why the prompt itself makes people uncomfortable. But I don't think the kinkmeme should be the place where people attack the author!anon for filling a prompt one way, instead of the way they want.
The current rules of this kink meme say that all kinds of prompts are welcome here and that we should not bash or hijack other people's prompts. I am dismayed that certain commenters are trying to pressure the author!anon one way or another, esp. as an indirect attack on the prompt itself. (No, this was not my prompt.)
Thank you for pointing this out to us. Because of the discussion that generated this kinkmeme, and the fact that a lot of people said they didn't want us to be too heavy-handed, our current policy is not to intervene in threads unless we're asked to by an author or prompter, or unless people start trolling.
We have had contact with the author of the fill, and we are absolutely keeping an eye on the thread. However, we think it still qualifies as discussion, and so we're not going to interfere with the thread as it stands right now.
I WASN'T THE ORIGINAL REPOSTER. I REPOSTED THAT PROMPT AFTER IT WAS FILLED (I THINK THE PERSON WHO FILLED IT REPOSTED IT ORIGINAL TIME). I DIDN'T WANT TO TACK MY REQUEST FOR A NEW FIC ONTO THEIR FILL BECAUSE THAT'S RLY ASSHOLISH; I THOUGHT ETIQUETTE WHEN YOU DIDN'T LIKE A FILL BUT RLY LIKED THE PROMPT WAS TO REPOST THE PROMPT AND CLARIFY WHAT YOU'D LIKE TO SEE DONE DIFFERENTLY. WAS I WRONG? BECAUSE IT MAKES NO SENSE HAVING THAT CLARIFICATION FROM ME THERE, BECAUSE I'M NOT THAT REPOSTER.
Our threading system for prompts is designed to support multiple fills, which makes fic easier to find and keeps the meme more reasonable.
As long as the clarification is minor and not a hijacking (ie, changing something fundamental about the prompt/pairing), that's not assholish at all and is perfectly fine. People are going to interpret prompts in different ways anyway, so discussion is fine. The problem is when people try and steer prompts away from pairings or elements they don't like.
SO TO CLARIFY (SRY I'M SLOW THIS MORNING) WE'RE NOT ALLOWED TO REPOST ANY FILLED PROMPTS? WE CAN ONLY ASK FOR A NEW FIC UNDER THE ORIGINAL PROMPT COMMENT? BECAUSE YOU SHOULD PROBABLY ADD THAT TO THE RULES; IT ISN'T CLEAR AS IT STANDS.
If you're changing something fundamental about the prompt, then yes, you need to repost.
If you'd just like to see a slightly different take on that prompt (if it's a prompt that's on the current prompts post), just post that under the top-level comment for that prompt, where discussions/seconding/fill claim posts go. It's not assholish, it saves space, etc etc.
Basically, prompts are intended to have/allow multiple fills under them, that's why fics are posted under fill claim posts. We're going to index prompts and fics at the Delicious, so having all the fills for a certain prompt is the most convenient.
Authors are always going to interpret the prompts in different ways, so as long as people aren't commenting to suggest things like making a Yags/Plushenko prompt into Johnny/Evan, or adding hardcore BDSM to a prompt that's super fluffy schmoop(or vice-versa), comments/discussions about what people would like to see is fine, as long as it's not done under a fill claim post. Those are basically the "personal territory" of the
( ... )
Can you please add a rule about non-fill prompt discussions? That HP thread is getting out of hand and is obnoxious for people who are tracking the post/prompt.
