For the first time in her life, Mao had dinner at Joubert’s. Patrick, with his incredible wealth, paid for everything

The worst part of class happened two weeks after midterms, when they began discussing homosexuality and every legal thing that came with it including marriage, adoption, and crime. Throughout the whole discussion, which had been very engaging with everyone trying to talk on top of each other, Mao and Yu-na stayed silent, not saying a single word. Mao wondered why Yu-na wasn’t talking; maybe she’s still affected with what Mao (and Patrick) did to her. Or, and here Mao was taking a wildcard guess, Yu-na was still in love with her, just couldn’t deal with seeing her right now

Professor Bourne and the rest of the class nodded in approval of Mao’s last statement. Somebody said “Damn, that’s pretty good.”

“That’s very good, Mao,” Bourne said. “Thank you for sharing.”

Mao sighed with relief and put her head down on the desk. She didn’t look at Yu-na anymore for the remainder of the class. If she did, she would have caught Yu-na staring at her for a few seconds then turning away.

They continued to remain silent until the end of class.

Mao was going to admit it: she missed Yu-na. A lot. Not just Yu-na but being with Yu-na, spending time with her, whether it was in school or hanging out in the city. She missed every single detail about Yu-na, remembering what was it about Yu-na that made her love her in the first place (necessarily, it wasn’t because Yu-na was cute, which she actually was). She missed the way Yu-na laughed, the way Yu-na smiled at her, how calm Yu-na always was whenever Mao got furious at something, and the way Yu-na calmed her down
