It's a good idea, except there are no best buys in Menomonie. Just a walmart. Sigh. And only one of them can drive, and I don't think the car would make it to Eau Claire.
Man I wish they would get out of the house more. Or even...just do anything more.
Well, just remember that you are not in any way OBLIGATED to get them what they asked for. They're gifts. Spend what you want to spend, on what you want to spend it on. If you feel bad about it, give them the gift receipts and they can return the items if they want.
If they want to bad enough, they'll find a ride to Eau Claire.
Yeah right. You know that brings up a good point, I might as well make this the $1000 xmas and ask if she needs some money to buy extra food for the dinner and then to make it through the end of the month. Oh, that is what I should get Frank -- because a grocery store gift card would benefit everyone. Even if half of it goes to smokes and beer.

Hmm. All I can say is, it is proof of what an amazing person you are that you took control of your life and chose to live differently. To be different from how you grew up, etc. It's equally amazing that you continue to reach out and work so hard at those relationships

This is the same grandfather that at your birthday party said he wanted to die (I think he said it to Tim or something).
I am santa. It may be self centered but we are the brightest spot in their lives every year. They don't go anywhere, do anything, etc. Everything is always depressing and this one day a year they all at least try to be happy. I can't not let them have that....right? And this is the first year in a long long time that there is going to be a kid there...so yeah.
And they do think I am rolling in it. Dude anyone with a saving account of more than $200 is rolling in it.
my sister's family is very much like this too. i never stop hearing how they don't have any money (not to mention the countless requests for loans) but their Xmas lists always look a lot like this. They have new cell phones every time i see them. i can't count the number of things we bought them over the years that are back on the list the following year b/c it was broken, lost, whatever.
it is frustrating... i have no advice since i end up getting them what they want - unless i just find it inappropriate.
i hope you have a nice xmas despite this aggravation.
My mom's side is like this. Think we're loaded, yet only this month have Cody and I had spare money, and my mom nearly ended up homeless last month. Since we've stayed in our apartments more than six months, that must mean we're rich. The best thing I did for myself was to cut them all out. Haven't seen a single one in over five years.
Get them gift cards to Target or something. They can save them and save more money (that they don't drink away) if they want these things so badly.

I like the Best Buy card idea. That way, if they really want what they'e asked for, they can save up a little to meet the cost.

Is your address still the same? Have you made the move to Florida?
