Wednesday: 2 hours on rollers.

I managed to crack the frame on my Surly Steamroller. AGAIN. Some place as before, when randomdreams was kind enough to put it back together. The weld held for years of me abusing the frame (and really, I abuse bikes by doing things on them you're aren't supposed to do) Aww, well. I have no money for a comparable frame, ( Read more... )

Which side of the gusset did it crack on: the dropout side or the chainstay side?
I'd be glad to reweld it. I think I'm better than I was then.

Good question. I haven't a good answer ;) Looks like a pretty clean break.

I'd be happy to give it back to you! You'll need to strip the spray paint of the weld frame again, but that should be easier than what was on there, before.

Way easier, and if it's broken clean through it's easy anyway because I can spread the tubing and put a plastic beaker on there and fill that with paint stripper. Nothing survives that.

I'll bring it over, next time I'm over. I'll attempt to sand down some of the paint as best as I can. There's a bit of rust near the break - should that be sanded off as well?
