I'm starting to get nervous about this HIM thing. I'm constantly running through my kit list, so I thought I'd write it down. If any of you other Tri bods looks at it and think "but where's his...?" do say, but otherwise this is for my reference to compare after the event and for the future.
START WITH:
Body glide (BUY!!!): I used a whole stick of this. It rubbed off my shoulders though, probably under the wetuit and I got sunburn quite badly.
Vaseline (nose, nips, crotch): Better than Bodyglide for lubrication of intimate areas
Sun cream: Yes. Waterpoort
Heart Rate monitor chest band
Polar 625x watch
Tri Suit
SWIM:
Wetsuit: Shoulders were a bit constrained, need to get it on absolutely properly. Try and give more time for putting it on.
Goggles
Hat x2: Not sure its worth it, but might stop goggles getting knocked off
GENERAL ITEMS IN TRANSITION:
Small towel: Defintely. Need it to get gravel off feet.
Water: Yep. Good for pouring over me as well
Banana: Chop up into small pieces next time
Nuts: Mixed with fruit, good fibre to settle stomach. Defintely worth it.
Dry fruit
Mar Bar ? (it will melt...) It did indeed. Not worth it
Spare inner tube and spare canister: Yup. Comfort blanket. I took lots of bike bits and tools (tyres, allen keys, tape, spare bolts, spare stem)
Extra Vaseline: NOt really time to do anything with it. Maybe if my crotch had been even more chafed I'd have stopped at T2 to put some more on.
Clear plastic bags for covering when wet: Yup. Lucky if you don't need them, better to be prepared
T1:
Helmet: Put it somewhere you can't move the bike without putting it on.
Race belt w. number: Again, somewhere you can't move without it.
Bike shoes: I still put these on and run in them. Unless you're very sure, don't clip them in already.
Gloves: Velcro'd to the front of the aero bars worked fine
Soft shell: Took it, its a good cold and wind proof thing. In a plastic bag behind the back wheel just in case.
Waterproof: Ditto
Warm hat: Didn't bother in the end
Long tights: I worried about my leg cramping, so wanted to be able to keep it warm if things got cold
ON BIKE:
Sunglasses (decide yellow/mirror on morning). Mirrow ones worked well, make sure they're comfy ones
Bike bottle Isostar x2: OK. Maybe I'd swap one for water next time
Gels x2: In bento box
Power bar: IN bento box. Worth it - needed something solid.
Pouch w. Tyre levers, Multi-tool, Self adhesive patches, spare tube(s), CO2 canister(s) + valve: Didn't touch it, but glad it was there!
Pump: In its holder, and taped in as well just in case.
T2:
Running shoes: Lace locks work fine for me
Socks: Necessity
Running foot Pod: No time to change over from Bike to Run mode.
Running Hat: Yes, definitely. Very hot days, you need a hat
Gels x2: In my tri suit from the start. Lifesavers
Bottle of Isostar: Didn't touch it in the end
Coke: Took a swig. Personl preference thing - I like caffeine
Banana: 1 is probably enough, in pieces
Mars bar: No
Running gloves: Not unless its really, really cold
RECOVERY:
Fleece: Yup, needed it
Isostar recovery drink: Yes. Found it very hard to eat, so this is a good quick fix
Crisps; Yup. I wanted the salt
Towel, wash bag: Shower was nice afterwards. I stank
Underwear: Don't forget. Bits are quite tender afterwards
Wife: Very useful, thoroughly recommend one. No you can't borrow mind
