I thought "ben-" was for boys? or do both genders use it? I've only met one person who used that kind of patronymic, so I'm probably misremembering.

Best of luck with the exchange student. Let me know how it goes! I'm working on getting my second bedroom in order, and if I don't find a roommate, I was thinking about hosting an exchange student myself, so I'm curious about your experience.
