Have you posted this elsewhere? I was sure I had commented on this already... maybe I just got distracted and forgot.

Anyway, I'm a sucker for angst, and this is just beautiful and heartwrenching. I love the part about how Jim's pain overwhelmed even the Vulcan healer... I mean, if it makes a Vulcan healer cry out from a brief exposure to it, how fucking painful mustn't it be to carry that inside you all the time?

It made me happy to see that there's no instant recovery as soon as he gets Spock back (okay, maybe not happy, because obviously instant recovery would be great for Jim, it's just that it would be very unlikely after what he's gone through). Wonderful work ( ... )

Yeah, you commented on the meme. :D Thanks for commenting here though!

I would use "must it be" because the "mustn't it be" implies there would be a contraction. Like "must not it be."

Otherwise you can use, "mustn't it?" at the end of a sentence and that means the same thing.

I hope that helps? I hope I answered your entire question.

Yeah, you did answer the entire question... thanks! :) Btw., I'm sorry in advance for spamming you with OT grammar/linguistics stuff. I can't help it. College has ruined my brain.

I would use "must it be" because the "mustn't it be" implies there would be a contraction. Like "must not it be."

Otherwise you can use, "mustn't it?" at the end of a sentence and that means the same thing. Yes, I just thought that if there can be a contraction in "mustn't it?" (or "isn't she?", "doesn't he?" or other similar question tags), then it should theoretically be possible to say "mustn't it be" as well - after all, "must not it?" and "is not she?" doesn't make any more sense than "must not it be". So it seems to me that in theory, "mustn't it be" shouldn't be that different from ending a sentence with "mustn't it?" - it's just that one of them happens to be more prevalent. Or something. That's why I asked... I wasn't sure if both are used in English or not ( ... )
