I just got back from Friday Night Magic, whereat I got 2nd place and received a spiffy foil Reanimate.
Instead of making a deck beforehand like I usually do, I grabbed the deck I had that was closest to Type 2 legal:
4x Lodestone Myr
4x Lumengrid Sentinel
4x Howling Mine
4x Genesis Chamber
4x Condescend
3x Assert Authority
1x Vedalken Shackles
4x Willbender
4x Wizard Replica
2x Broodstar
1x Pentavus
1x Arcbound Ravager
4x Darksteel Citadel
4x Seat of the Synod
16x Island
Howling Mine and Genesis Chamber are cool cards, but it's no fun when they're symmetric. All you need to do is tap them, and they're as one-sided as this year's World Series. The deck is kind of slow, but once it gets going, it's hard to stop.
All I had to do to make it Type 2 legal was change 4 cards:
-4 Willbender
+3 Arcbound Ravager
+1 Keiga, the Tide Star
I thought the deck would be too slow, but it surprised me with its resilience. Luckily I didn't see any artifact removal all night.
Still, the deck went undefeated, despite my mediocre expectations. Maybe I should have brought this deck to States!
