Fringe has this thing where there is an alternate universe that was shaped by different choices being made and there is more than one of everything, including people. It's a sci-fi show, just roll with it. What that means is that there are two Lincoln Lees. They are not the same character, although they are both definitely "Lincoln Lee." This is confusing. So, to clarify -
skepticalities / "Linc Prime" is from the "prime" universe - which is basically like our own. He's an FBI agent who used to be your run-of-the-mill desk jockey in Hartford until he joined up with the Fringe division. He's the more subdued one, but he does have a wicked sense of humor and has been described as being a very sarcastic type. He's just now learning about the weirdness that exists in the world and hasn't really unlocked his potential yet. He wears glasses and is more clean-cut.
pyrocalities / "Alt Linc" is from the alternate universe, where they have zeppelins, the World Trade Center didn't fall, they didn't get Red Vines until recently, and whatnot. He's been with his world's Fringe division for awhile, and he's brash and loud and kind of dumb courageous. This Lincoln is more outgoing. He's a soldier, so he's more of a badass by default. He's also the scientist of his team. He forgets to comb his hair and shave, and he is very flammable. ... Apparently he is also "Agent Lee"! :Dd
If Linc Prime took off his glasses and Alt Linc cleaned up a bit, they would look exactly the same. According to their actor:
"It's the same person, but [...] they think and act completely differently. And there are certain ways that they're the same. [...] My feeling is that both Lincolns have the same nature, but they've each been nurtured in different ways. As a result, one has more confidence than the other. Also one has more confidence in his ability to think scientifically and strategically (Agent Lee), and one has more confidence in his ability to be bold and courageous and get things done (Captain Lee)."
There will be times when the Lincolns couldn't be any more different and then, there will be times when they're on the same wave length. It's like a ridiculous butterfly effect with this character. They are both the "real" Lincoln Lee, it's just that their histories are divergent due to the alternate universes, which means they were then brought up differently and here we are. Some things remain the same between them - or at least, some concepts are similar. Have fun telling us apart on IRC. We apologize in advance if we ever decide to play in the same CFUW game.
Feel free to confuse them for one another! We are also both down with them being confused with a certain carnie doctor who shares a PB with them, so if you ever want to yell at them for carnival shenanigans, that is totally fine. Let's see how long it takes before they throw their hands in the air and claim to be twins with the same name.
