When he glances up from his book, there she is, walking towards Susan's table. Anthony is worried to see Hannah looking sad and upset again. He listens carefully to the girls' conversation, hoping for a clue - which he gets almost immediately.
She's talking about Ernie... MacMillan.
His first reaction is one of bitter disappointment.
She's sad because he's dating someone else. That must mean she fancies him... She fancies another bloke...
Then his disappointment turns to anger, so vivid he can't remember the last time he felt that way.

But even if I can't comfort her... maybe those Hufflepuffs prats could use a bit of a lesson in gallantery. Especially MacMillan.
Anthony has never been fond of him - he knows MacMillan wants to be Head Boy as much as he does - but the fact that Hannah fancies him and that he hurt is too much for Anthony to handle.
