Susan sits in the library working on her Charms essay. She's not in the mood for the hustle and bustle of the common room tonight, and is hoping to revise in peace. Hannah sits down dejectedly. "It's been a very bad day for me, and I've just had a talk with Ernie and Justin that didn't go so well," Hannah explains as she takes her Transfiguration text and assignment out of her bag.

Hannah looks down at her text, embarrassed again. "Well Ernie insulted me again in front of Justin and told me that he is dating the girl I told you about seeing him with the other day," Hannah explains.

Anthony is working in a corner of the Library, hoping to spot Hannah there again - her friend Susan is sitting not far from him. Since they exchanged owls, he's been following her discreetly, grateful for the slightest glimpse of her. He prays every night for the damn snow to let up so he can send her another poem. His inspiration is thriving right now.

When he glances up from his book, there she is, walking towards Susan's table. Anthony is worried to see Hannah looking sad and upset again. He listens carefully to the girls' conversation, hoping for a clue - which he gets almost immediately.

She's talking about Ernie... MacMillan.

His first reaction is one of bitter disappointment.

She's sad because he's dating someone else. That must mean she fancies him... She fancies another bloke...

Then his disappointment turns to anger, so vivid he can't remember the last time he felt that way.

He insulted her... not once but twice! so this is why she's been acting this way. This beautiful, wonderful girl fancies him and this is how ( ... )

Susan looks sympathetically at Hannah. "I can't believe he's dating someone, especially someone like her. They don't seem like they'd be a very good match at all," she says, shaking her head.

Hannah nods in agreement. "I know. And for both him and Justin to embarrass me like that was awful," she says quietly, looking down at her notes, hoping to manage at least a little revising tonight.

It breaks Anthony's heart to see Hannah like this, and the worst part is not being able to comfort her like he would want to.

But even if I can't comfort her... maybe those Hufflepuffs prats could use a bit of a lesson in gallantery. Especially MacMillan.

Anthony has never been fond of him - he knows MacMillan wants to be Head Boy as much as he does - but the fact that Hannah fancies him and that he hurt is too much for Anthony to handle.
