For those of you who read my DA journal, you may want to skip the first few cuts; they're the same thing as I posted there, with few changes.
Digital Portal, a group I joined on Deviant Art to actually get constructive criticism on my art rather than just compliments, held their first group chat this yesterday morning. From my perspective, it was a roaring success. I'm impressed with how well it was run, as well as how much fun I had! Two of the admins are friends of mine from a previous forum and fansite, so talking with them is always a pleasure. As they're fantastic digital artists, it's also very illuminating. We ran a round-robin with the theme of "open scenery," and despite much discussion of adding things like UFOs and three-headed deer, it remained an idyllic field scene. I got some great advice, happy me.
As an addict of weekly comics and blogs, I find myself scheduling my mornings to include checking their updates. Being more reliable is something I'd like to work on, so I'm going to try make my blogging and art uploads a more dependable, regular thing. I hope to update new art on Monday, and make the blogs a Monday/Wednesday/Friday thing, or just a Friday thing for the Blogspot address. As difficult as scheduling like that will be to do so: I'm hoping it'll motivate me write more, as well as to finish some art pieces that've been on the back burners, as well as the numerous things in my queue. (I have a Things-to-Draw Master List that has about 250 specific ideas on it, including things that other people have requested, and I'm coming up with more ideas all the time. Yeesh! :faint: )
Today was Patriot's Day here in Massachusetts, as well as being Marathon Monday. My college is the half-way point for the Boston Marathon, and it's traditional for students to line the road and make what's called the Scream Tunnel. It's exactly what it sounds like: a half-mile of cheering, screaming, sign-waving students ringing cowbells and reaching out for high-fives and kisses from the runners who've made it that far. I'm sunburned and my voice is gone. And I am happy.
Yesterday, my girlfriends and I volunteered as servers at the Boston Marathon Pasta Party at Boston's City Hall, making sure the runners and their families loaded up on carbohydrates prior to the big day. Out of sheer chance, the five of us were assigned to the first table, and as such were incredibly visible to the runners coming up the steps. There was LOUD music being played, and we started dancing while waiting for more diners; the MC nicknamed us his "Energizer Bunnies" because we kept it up virtually the entire six hours we were on our feet. I have no idea how many times we were filmed by news crews or how many people have photos of us on their cameras. At one point, the coordinators came over and cordoned off our table, leaving us free to just dance. The reason for being shut down? The Mayor was going to be serving at our table. It took him an hour to actually -get-there once they'd closed it off, and then they kicked us out (except for one of my girlfriends, who got to stay and serve next to him and ended up in the newspaper as a result.) Afterwards, we went to get hot dogs and then to a pub called The Last Drop. Much fun was had.
As to the prospies, only one showed. Sweet girl, very sheltered and polite. She seemed a little intimidated by, well, everything, which I felt was explained by her being a boarding-school girl. I don't know if Wellesley would be a good fit for her, but as she was choosing between here and Barnard...Well, we're better. ^__~
Tired. Sleep now. This still counts as a Monday update!
