Sparked by a recent conversation: Condoms. Holy mother of god. Really? Are we still having this conversation? Does ANYONE doubt that it might just SUCK getting AIDS? It never ceases to amaze me when this subject comes up in the LJ poly communities. WTF? Poly people, *above all others*, should know that condom use is non-negotiable. Unless you're in a closed, fluid-bonded tri or circle, there is no excuse whatsoever for not using condoms. It's one of my biggest peeves and a person's attitude on the subject directly bears on whether I will date them or not. Thanks for sharing this.

And if you're in a nonmonogamous relationship and you KNOW your partner has sex with other partners without a condom--and you STILL choose to have unprotected sex--you are suicidally stupid. And if you think it's OK--I can't even fathom it...

fucking idiots. And so many of them are women! what are they thinking?

I really don't know. Somehow, I don't think they *are* thinking. Maybe because they don't want to? A kind of denial?

Fortunately I grew up in a time and place where my education made condoms a no-brainer. And it was before they started using misinformation about the AIDS virus being small enough to slip between the molecules of latex.

I love how some people think a teacher saying, "Hey, don't have sex!" will defeat 15 year old hormones. I think the only people who think that 15 is too young for sex are people who are older than 15.

As far as poly people/swingers, I can't even fathom how they wouldn't use them.

I think fifteen IS too young for sex. Hell, I think some people at THIRTY are too young for it.

But Christ. Jesus CHRIST. How people can be so willfully, wholeheartedly, PROUDLY stupid is beyond me. And yes, I absolutely trace it to the President. It's all the same: Abstinence-only, Global climate change, and, of course, the war. You know it's wrong, I know it's wrong. And most certainly the administration knows it's wrong. But it's what they want, and it makes the Religious Right happy, so we'll get misinformation and outright lies shoved down our throats until people who at the very least are usually capable of adding two plus two and getting four are suddenly saying, "No, it's FIVE! Five, I tell you!"

January '09 can't come fast enough. Thank you so much for posting this. I intend to spread it like a...virus.
