I don't think of Independence Day as a particularly commercialized holiday. You may see an increase in the sale of BiC lighters with flag designs, but really the only products specifically marketed for the holiday are fireworks, which recieve little advertising. Sure, around this time of year you're bound to see more stars and stripes used in advertising, but that is more of a consequence of the holiday and not part of the holiday per se. Christmas is commerical - it is about making purchases. The fourth is more of a family outing day. We'll see a temporary rise in the price of gasoline, ground hamburger meat, and imported Chinese fireworks, but not so much else.

And hey, who doesn't like a good barbeque?
