So, as I expected, Brian's mom returned from the San Juans in full force, calling and emailing daily. This morning's message sent me over the edge!
This is what I sent back to her after a long email with a hundred questions and answers:
Hi Jodie!
>
>One other thing we might do with the tulle is tape it across the front of
>the stage somehow....just a thought. We'll see how things work. I think you
>are right to question how to keep it up on the edge of the balcony.
>
>I've got the Abbey coupon in my purse for safe keeping (and so I remember
>where it is!) After we get through the Super Bowl and our friend's wedding
>the following weekend, why don't you and I head to Abbey together to see
>what they have? I also need to get together with Mickie @ The Mountaineer's
>to see if they even have the light blue napkins, or if we'll need to rent
>those too.
>
>Thanks for the recommendations on the cakes...I'll check 'em out!
>
>Michael's was a great success....I'll look more online for the grosgrain
>ribbon.
>
>New budget doesn't show honeymoon because that's what Brian's $5000 is
>going
>towards. Then, I'm putting in $6500, and we'll each have additional
>responsibilities (separate from the budget) for bridesmaids luncheon or
>wedding night hotel, our rings, etc.
>
>I got a revised estimate from the florist including the moss balls in
>addition to the floral ones for the pews. It's about $600 less than what it
>was before. I've already paid $365, so the balance is around $800. There is
>a $100 set-up/delivery fee, but that's not for transferring from ceremony
>to
>reception. Typically that's an additional charge which we won't have to
>pay.
>
>I have an appt this afternoon, then I am heading north to see my girlfriend
>who had a baby girl last night. So exciting!!!
>
>Thanks,
>Em

This is what she sent back to me this morning:
I don't think taping is a possibility with the tulle. The stretching of the
fabric will put too much stress on the tape. My thought is to have Glenda,
who is that gal that does my draperies etc, neet person, go down to the
Mountaineer Club when I get the bolt and put our heads together on how to
attach it. My first thought is to have a side band, like webbing the tulle
is attached to and maybe we attach 25feet at a time. Then have a pin/hook
in the top of the webbing to attach to a rope that attaches around the
bottom of the upper railings. (If you understood this you're a genius)
Anyway, I do have an idea but Glenda is really good about knowing the
weights and measurements of fabrics and I think I would like to run the
whole thing past her about the look and the amount of fabric needed along
with installation within the guidelines of the club. oooohhhh
I went to JoAnns today and picked up a couple things; one was grosgrain
ribbon. They only had one left, about 2 inches, but I don't know if it's
the right color. I've got a bunch of samples for you of ribbons and stuff
and I figure if they don't work for one thing they will for another; guest
table decorations etc.
Sounds like you've got the florist under control. Like I said, the only
things that concerned me, in looking out for your best interest, was the
wording on transporting from the ceremony to the reception and the
dimensions and specifications on numbers of certain flowers you wanted to
see in the arrangements; your interrpretation of the amount of peonies or
whatever could be entirely different from what they're thinking; bride's
bouquet, bridesmaids etc.
Tablecloths. What a bi.ch! Can you believe what they're charging to rent
them? Ten bucks a piece! If I thought I could and would use 30 table
cloths I think I'd invest; maybe we should check online. Everything else is
online..... I'm also going to check out ABC rentals and Grand.
Cake.......I hope one of those recommendations works out. I looked at your
buget and I understand you've got alot of money set aside for the
cake......however, I'm always trying to find a way to save you guys some
money to put towards the honeymoon and Johnny's......the design you want is
very elegant, sophisticated and simple. It doesn't require alot of
designing of flower and/or trim. I think, and this is just a gut reaction,
you shouldn't have to pay over $350. I'm taking into account a bunch of
things. I think between you and Brian you would like to keep the top of
your cake or a section thereof??? By the time people consume several
glasses of wine and great food!!!!.......they're not going to want alot of
cake; the elderly will eat it all; the younger will take a couple bites. I
think the bakeries have a tendency to overexagerate how much cake is needed.
And, if the majority is being cut in the back........why spend a ton of
money for somebody to bake a sheet cake. This is only my thinking! If you
can coordinate white cake with whatever filling you want, I really don't
think anyone would be able to tell if your sheets were from Costco. You
don't have to tell. I had the entire Seattle University Grads Club Seafair
Clowns over here for a BBQ. We picked up Costco chickens, dressed them with
a little extra special BBQ sauce, stuck them on the BBQ and everyone went
wild asking for the recipe......I said it was a family secret!
I hope all is well with your friend and the new baby. I've got a 10am
tomorrow which will last several hours, so I'll try and touch base either
before or after. What's your feeling on "save the date" notices? Hope to
see you tomorrow night @ Katie's BDay @ ZigZag!

Where to begin you ask?
Well, I guess the biggest thing is that we've budgeted the amounts for each item so that we know we have enough to pay what the industry typically charges for these things. I am all for saving money here and there so things don't add up to as much as we expected, but this is getting ridiculous! Secondly, Brian has already set aside all the money we need for the honeymoon and this is information that his mom has been given several times. We don't need any more money for our honeymoon!
Sheesh!
The good news -
Brian had set up an appointment for today with his mom before I even got her email. I guess he was ready to figure out just what the heck is going on. Does she have a memory challenge or is she purposely ignoring everything we say?!?!
I am DYING to know how things are going!!!
