Uneven skin tone.

Jun 21, 2008 03:10

My skin's pretty uneven, with parts of my forehead and my neck being darker than other parts of my face. My mom says it's just "dirt" and I need to scrub harder. Somehow, I doubt that.

Is there anything I can do to even out my skin? Any products you can recommend? Thanks.

No disrespect to your mother, but it's DEFINITELY not dirt, and scrubbing is just going to make it worse because you are going to damage your skin, and it will get even more unevenly toned when it heals among other problems. It's melanin just like any other coloring of your skin.

The fact is that most skin, and skin of color tends to be uneven for whatever reason. I wouldn't use skin bleaches or skin lighteners because they often contain harmful chemicals. Also they don't usually work permanently anyway. I have heard of some new products recently but I don't know much about them, maybe someone else does.

Most of my discoloration has come from acne scars and they eventually fade.

You may want to find a good foundation to wear daily that will help to even it out.

If you are really bothered by it you might want to see a dermatologist, but since your mom doesn't seem to think it's that serious I'm not sure how realistic that solution is if you are still living at home.

lol, she has all these crazy opinions on everything, it's hard to take her seriously sometimes.

Hmm, I suppose I could use foundation but I'm pretty bad with makeup and my mom thinks I'm too young for all that. Of course, she thinks I'm too young to drink coffee and I'm 17! lol

I'll start looking into good foundations, however, and I've been thinking about seeing a dermatologist because I have a few blemish spots that won't go away. Thank you.

My neck used to be darker, but I started washing with backing soda and it lighted(I know right?). For the face though, I think it's the sun, my eye area is always lighter than the rest of my face for some reason.

Baking soda is one of the best things ever. You can use it to brush your teeth also and your teeth will be whiter than toothpaste would have ever gotten them. Good stuff. I didn't know about this though. I'm willing to try it though.

It's also the best deodorant ever. It truly efficiently deodorizes instead of just masking any smell.

This is the pricey road but Estee Lauder Idealist Pore Serum evened out my skin. Also, baking soda is better than ducktape. lol
