I still read here, I check every day few days and I'm always happy to see a new post from you. I know exactly what you mean about having too much "stuff", and the anxiety that " what if I toss it, and then suddenly this is the thing I need right now!" I also have attachment issues with stuff, combined with the fact that my organizational skills aren't the best, and I can't toss anything because there's a possibility that there might be something important mixed in. An example, and something that makes me so furious with myself. When we moved from the last house 7 years ago, a bunch of boxes ended up being labeled as "Josh's stuff from office", which was old school work and newspapers and assorted other shit that I'd probably never look at again.....except that I KNOW that mixed in with the shit there is an envelope with $500 in US savings bonds that had not matured yet so I tucked it into the front cover of a book. I'm an idiot.
I'm glad to know I still have readers! :) I had an unexpected reader message me on Facebook which was a pleasant surprise.
Honestly, I don't have great organizational skills either. Or I'll start and be on a great track...then lose momentum. Then it all falls apart. Then I'm back to square one.
When we moved, we did EXACTLY that! "Andrew's stuff from office", "PCW stuff from office", etc and most of it was just paperwork. Do we really need paperwork that old? Probably not. In your case, GAH! Money! I've misplaced a cheque before, too. You should have tried to remember the title of the book. :P
I hear you about toss things. I cleaned awhile ago tossed stuff out that I haven't used in a long time, then of course that dreadful day came when I went to get it to use and oh my gosh it was gone, so had to improvise with something else, but in the end it was okay. Close are the same thing, but I don't get to attached and I like to give them away to those who may need them. In Andrews case he is like dad and does not like to get rid of anything, well the time has come to let go, you must get rid of it while he is away just as I do with dad, I clean those things when he is not home, what he doesn't know he doesn't miss, and if he one day does miss it I say I have no idea where it is. Happy purging you can do it.
Usually with clothes, I really just play in my mind the fact that maybe I'll wear it again and possible outfits. It's silly, I know. If I hadn't worn something for 8 months then I'm probably not going to wear it again.
I've snuck the occasional things out without letting Andrew know about it first, but I on;y did that if I was certain it really wasn't that important. It usually takes me awhile to get him to agree to get rid of some clothing. A pair of jeans is the perfect example. It had holes everywhere, even the crotch. I patched them up, but the patches wore away, too. He just didn't want to get rid of them. So, I took them and put them in a pile of fabric stuff. I waited probably almost a year and I just recently showed them to him. I told him he hasn't used them that long, didn't even know I took them away, and I was done patching them up. FINALLY, I can toss them or tear them up for fabric.
