a slow start
This semester is starting up really slow for me. not in the sense that I haven't had work to do...more in the sense that I haven't been doing it. I can't seem to focus on my readings, and the fiction I'm trying to write feels really cliche and stupid. GAH
i don't even have the attention span to write this.

This day, one year ago.
I landed in Montpellier in the sticky air, after a day and a half of flying and at least 4 hours with fillefacetieuse asleep on a plane with her bony butt jabbing my back (you slept through a lot à cause du vin). I miss weekends of travel. I miss showing up in an arbitrarily chosen locale. I miss strong thick coffee on these mornings, poring over the town plan, the free museum pamphlets, poking at the impenetrable lumps of sugar. unabashed self indulgence and maniacal egotism
On Sunday I did my first (and definitely NOT last) duathlon in Bloomington, MN called Irongirl (stupid name, I know... why "girl"? that makes us sound like giggling schoolgirls). I LOVED it. I finished in 1h 54min. I thought it would take me at least 2.5 or 3 hours. I did the 22 mile bike in 1h 10 minutes--I passed people the whole way. It was ( Read more... ) -

except for that foolish emo who decided "undesirable" was the best word to describe himself.

unexpected reveries
do you ever have a moment when you realize how far you've come?
I a minor one today. I was walking past the Weisman museum on campus, and I saw a sign for the "Funk at the Fred" this year.
