title: Not Just The Drugs
rating: PGish
character/pairing: Freddie, JJ/Cook
warnings: implied slash and drug use
Freddie’s seen Cook touch JJ before, more than Cook’s realised, but never like this. It could have shocked him, but it doesn’t. It’s almost like he’s always known it was going to happen; like he’s been waiting for them to realise it was always going to happen.
Because the truth is he’s always known there was something more to JJ and Cook. Maybe that’s why he sometimes feels slightly uncomfortable around them; like he’s interrupting something that just shouldn’t be interrupted.
Later cook will say it was the drugs. But Freddie knows him better than that. And so does JJ.

He sees she’s hurting. He sees she’s falling apart.
He sees all of this, as he watches from afar. He watches as Cook messes with her head; messes with her life. Cook messes with everybody’s lives- but it hurts JJ more than usual to see him messing with her life. He tries not to think about why.
So he watches from afar, waiting; just waiting. Waiting for her to notice, waiting for a sign. Then she takes his hand, and that’s the sign he’s been waiting for, the sign he needs. He holds her tight, hoping, somehow, this’ll be enough.
