Since I've been watching waayyy too many Nostalgia Critic reviews, here's a movie meme.
1. One movie that made you laugh:
Some Like It Hot. I don't like many romantic comedies, but this one is just... perfect. With the best ending ever! Seriously, try to top that last line! It can't be done!
2. One movie that made you cry:
Big Fish. I have a tendency to cry more during happy endings than sad moments. Runner-ups: Jackson's LotR movies (too obvious), Mononoke Hime (Ashitaka's theme does that every time) and Fievel Goes West (oh come on! I was seven! And can still sing all the songs!).
3. One movie you loved when you were a child:
One?! Okay, the one I reeeally really liked, had to see on the big screen four times (I think it was four? I can't remember anymore) and then watched it on video practically daily... The Land Before Time. It came out when I was, five, I think? And I can distinctly remember watching it obsessively when I was eight. So that's at least three years of my life spent with Little Foot and all the other Don Bluth dinosaurs. I could even sing the ending song although I didn't understand a word of it. Serious dinosaur obsession here.
4. One movie you’ve seen more than once:
Once again... one?! I have a habit of re-watching my favourite movies over and over again. It doesn't work with all movies - I love Pan's Labyrinth, but I'm not in any hurry to see it again. It's just not that kind of movie. It would again be too easy to say the LotR trilogy. Let's go for Trainspotting instead. Just like Irvine Welsh's books, it just seems to get better and better the more I watch it.
5. One movie you loved, but were embarrassed to admit it:
I... sort of... have this thing about Kevin Costner's Dumb Epic Movies. You know what I mean, Waterworld, Postman, Avatar Dances With Wolves. I'm aware they're no-brainers, and if there are any female characters in them, I sure as hell can't recall their faces or names, but they're somehow very entertaining. Especially Waterworld. It's a very interesting setting, even if Aquaman!Costner and Miss Blandface and her kid who seems to have more sexual tension with Costner than her mum does (urgh) are all dreadfully boring characters. And Postman has that post-apocalyptic thing going for it. I can't help but think of these movies as RPG settings. They're just waiting for the right GM and a group of characters to really bring them to life!
6. One movie you hated:
ONE?! Okay, I've watched a lot of movies that I knew were going to suck (my family dragged me to see Bruce Almighty, which was the only option available, and big surprise, we all left feeling insulted; a friend and I decided to see Eragon, but got firmly drunk beforehand; you get the drift). But the one movie that really slapped me in the face with its godawfulness was Doomsday. I was expecting a two-star scifi action thriller with a few good scenes and cheap entertainment. I got endless boring James Bond car chases, a main character who must be Bloodrayne's long lost sister, a medieval castle filled with people pretending to be medieval for no reason, cannibals in leather bras, LARPers riding white horses through woods while punks chase them with spray-painted buses and just WHOA, HOLY CLUSTERFUCK. Never see that movie. It's embarrassing.
7. One movie that scared you:
Juon (or Grudge). I watched it alone in a big creaky house with two cats in the middle of the night. I swear I've grown a brain since then...
8. One movie that bored you:
Alexander. My kingdom for more elephants, more gay and some actual leadership from the greatest leader of the time! What a whinging pussy! Colin Farrell, how you have let me down!
9. One movie that made you happy:
It would be cheating to list all Studio Ghibli movies here, wouldn't it? Oh well. How about Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It makes me smile, too.
10. One movie that made you miserable:
District 9. I mean, it was a wonderful movie, but... man, humanity sucks. I'm off to plant man-eating trees right now.
11. One movie you weren’t brave enough to see:
I don't think there is one. No one's ever dared me to see one of those annoying romcoms that are all alike. If they did, I might back out slowly, or I might bite the bullet and live to regret it. It's all hypothetical.
12. One movie character you’ve fallen in love with:
Er. I'm embarrassed to admit this, but my first movie crush? A dog. Dodger, from Disney's Oliver and Company. (Filuri. I love that Finnish translation. Also, we get Matti Olavi Ranin as his voice.) I pushed my sunglasses back like that for years for no other reason but the fact that he did it. Because I was five at the time, I'm not entirely sure if I loved Dodger or wanted to be Dodger. He was the quintessential Chaotic Good Rogue! He had street smarts! He could improvise! He had New York City heart!
If I've given you a Why Should I Worry earworm, I shall congratulate myself on a job well done.
13. The last movie you saw:
At the cinema? Mononoke Hime. Finally, on the big screen in Finland!
14. The next movie you hope to see:
The Lovely Bones. Anyone want to come with?
