Past, Tense?

I've been emailing back and forth with Padre Mike, the padre at the military college where we'll be getting married, and all of this time I've been thinking that his name sounded awfully familiar. Today it hit me: he's the padre who stood beside when I went to my ex's repatriation ceremony when they brought him back from Afghanistan ( Read more... )

Ok that last sentence made me all sentimental-like! :)

As for Padre Mike, that is a tough one! Though I think it's a good point that R never met your ex, so he doesn't have any real context and nothing to really be reminded of. Though maybe after a few days, ask him again, cause sometimes these thoughts take a while to percolate.

Additionally, if it's bothering you wondering if it's bothering him, and if you think it promises to continue bothering you, then that might be reason enough to find somebody else to do the ceremony!

I think the way you see it makes sense, and if R says it doesn't bug him, then you should believe him.

I had Tim as my Dude of Honour though, so I may not be good at this sort of etiquette. :)

I think that the answer is: if R thinks that it's fine and says that it's fine then you have to take him at his word that it's fine. Going into pretzels of second guessing whether he said what he meant is a bad plan and a recipe for crazy stress for you.

Remember part of having a great wedding is having a fun wedding.

I think if Rob says he's fine with it, it will be fine. I think it will be good to have a connection with the person who's marrying you. The padre was there for you during a difficult time in your life and sounds like he was very kind. As long as you're both okay with him, I think it may mean more to you down the road that you had a connection with him. :)
