AHAHAHA I DID NOT PROOFREAD THIS AT ALL YOU BETTER APPRECIATE THIS NIKKI

Canonmates aside, Ayumu is one of the people Maka talks to the most. They have a bit of an unexpected friendship (well, to me, at any rate; I hadn't ever expected their first thread to ever lead to what it has...), if not an odd one, although Maka doesn't see it that way.

It's been about a year for them, and they've been through a lot... well, just between the two of them, anyway. They first met in the church-- he had been playing the piano-- and he gave the impression he didn't think he was any good at it. Maka encouraged him anyway, because she believed he was good at it; not that's she's an expert to begin with, but she thought it was disappointing to hear him be so down on himself. Not a whole lot happened there, but they did start talking more after that.

Over time, she began learning more about him, and that included a little insight as to where Ayumu's insecurities stemmed from. Mostly, he was always compared to someone (although for a while, she didn't know who), and apparently this person was viewed as perfect in every way in Ayumu's eyes. Maka didn't believe such a person could exist, of course, and the more he mentioned them the more Maka wanted to dissuade him from such a thought. It certainly didn't happen, but she really hated to see him be so down on himself-- especially when he had already proven himself to be an incredibly smart person and gifted at what he liked doing the most (piano and cooking, natch). Maka basically set out to try to make Ayumu happy-- somehow. She believed he didn't deserve whatever crap was bogging him down.

As time went on, their relationship grew more personal. Ayumu started to be a brat and Maka had no problem smacking him around for it. They bicker and argue quite often, probably because they have such different personalities-- other times Ayumu just seems to like pushing her buttons on purpose, since it's really not that hard at all to get Maka riled up. For as often as they get frustrated with one another, they're just as quick to forgive and forget about it; they're both incredibly stubborn people, but despite that it's fairly easy for either of them to say let's drop it and talk about something else. And they do. It's something Maka can appreciate because it means they don't ever stay mad at each other for any extended period of time, whether she's at fault or not. Arguing aside, it's nice to have another person to just talk about whatever comes their way. They're pretty good about letting a conversation flow however way it goes, even if Ayumu did give the impression he was a quiet, reclusive person at first. They're certainly never quiet when they're with each other, that's for sure.

And that's how it was for a while more or less until Christmas day, because after Ayumu said he was going to spend it alone Maka insisted on spending some time with him so he wasn't lonely then. It was a pretty unfortunate day to be by yourself! Or so she believed. So that went on for a while until Ayumu went on with being his usual broody self and Maka went on being as persistent as ever, which kind of escalated into dramaz. BASICALLY, that's when she learned about his brother and what an asshole he is and things sort of fell into place for her then.

Once again, that's how it was for a while. She worried about him a lot since then! Not that she didn't before, but, well. It also didn't make her any less obnoxious about all the trying to make him happy and gain self confidence and blah blah blah, futile as the attempts were. Nothing would ever make that little bitch happy, goddamn.

OKAY FAST FORWARD A BIT. Maka canonupdating didn't change their CR by much, but Ayumu canonupdating did! Ayumu was sad in the rain :( and of course Maka dragged him inside because what the fuck are you doing just standing out there, boy, but it became REALLY APPARENT that something was horribly amiss. He had went home and came back! But instead of being blatantly broody he was being subtly broody and everything about it just struck Maka as odd. And then he hugged her, uh. She was also kind of surprised when he mentioned he didn't want her to go anywhere or disappear or anything. JUST, well, in a way it was kind of a validation of their friendship coming from him when most of the time before she wondered if maybe she was just being one huge bother. Despite that Maka kind of hates how she handled that entire situation as a whole, since she was being pushy and bossy in a situation where Ayumu really didn't need to deal with that from her then. BUT SHE APOLOGIZED LATER SO WHATEVER.

Since then it's... kind of been smooth sailing! Ayumu just seems less :( and more :| these days, which... is an improvement, she supposes. It doesn't feel like she bothers him about ~being happier~ much anymore, which he makes up for in being more of a jerkass. Buuuut that's okay. Maka really thought Ayumu was just a giant douche during a spat of theirs, but after he mentioned genuinely wanting her company it was just kind of an "... oh. okay." thing. SHE'S... trying to learn to deal with it since. Maka knows him by now-- he only puts up that annoying front likely because he knows it bugs her, and she's trying to be less >:( about it and more /SUNGLASSES DEAL WITH IT. And also because he's. Ayumu. It's stupid, but whatever.

And well they did have another serious talk since! Ayumu actually admitted that he was a clone of his brother. And that... made stuff make sense. At least, more so! That's... pretty impacting news, although kind of surprising. Obviously this has affected Ayumu in just about every way possible, but Maka still isn't sure what to make of the news. Certainly, this doesn't make her view him any differently, mostly because she doesn't know if she's supposed to, but-- well, for now, she doesn't. It's... kind of a "... um. really?" sort of revelation in that a part of her kind of doesn't see that-- Ayumu's just been Ayumu to her all this time, so to think he's almost literally someone else's shadow... that just doesn't exist to her. Although, lol, genetic complications. Fuck you, science and logic, Maka sure as hell doesn't believe he's going to die anytime soon. Okay well she rather hopes he won't. Shit seriously sucks. And the worst part is, there's nothing she can do about it! She's just like, so used to saving people by means of kicking someone else's ass, but obviously Maka is completely useless in this situation. Feels bad, man.

So uh, god this got long. Basically... they're good friends who kind of lean on each other and that's about it. In all seriousness Maka doesn't have any interest in Ayumu in that way-- she's not into that and Ayumu likes older girls anyway, so the feeling is mutual. But he's someone she can talk to, and even if he is a giant bitch he's a reliable giant bitch. She trusts him a lot! And she isn't worried in the least about that trust ever being ruined, because Ayumu just doesn't seem like that kind of person.

tl;dr ayumu's a pretty cool dude i guess.

OH THIS IS THE WORST ESSAY EVER I SUCK AT THESE THINGS whatever mangs I tried
