Question for the Smart Masses

So I'm walking back to my car in a very public/busy parking lot after grabbing some lunch, and I'm greeted by a tiny little penis. A Mom or Mom-ish person was changing a diaper with the kid standing behind their car in the parking lot. At that point, I realized that's just not something you see as much as you used to ( Read more... )

Yes, when you have a diaper issue, you have a diaper issue! I was stuck on a plane once with a couple that preferred to argue over whose turn it was to change the poopey kid rather than change him and it was a horribly unpleasant situation, to say the least. Not cool.

It should be acceptable..

yet.. so many people are so wrapped up in 'what is right', 'what is good', 'what is proper'.. that quite a bit of freedom we had, is lost.

If I had a kid, then I would change him or her whenever he or she needed it.. yes, I would try and make sure that they were sort of covered

Also, I don't remember seeing as many baby changing cubicles in the bathrooms when I was younger.. allowing a parent to change there, instead of a more public venue

Agreed. On all accounts.

Good observation about the changing tables; I think you're right.

You know how uncomfortable I get around most babies (not all) so of COURSE baby penises are extra awful. I don't think it's obscene though and is acceptable. I remember being about 16 and I think I got so uncomfortable when my aunt changed her baby's diaper in front of me that she sort of covered him up. At the time I was offended thinking I thought her kid was a freak show. Now in retrospect I think she did it for my sake.

I've been changing diapers and dealing with babies/kids in general since I was pretty young. I think I started babysitting when I was maybe 11 or 12, and it was the only job I had all through HS. The sight of a baby penis isn't alarming in and of itself, which is why I was so surprised at how out of place that seemed to me at that moment.

It triggered me to remember a conversation I had a few months back with one of our 'nilla SoCal friends about baby pics; she had strategically covered the munchkin's boy bits in all the tub shots and I think I commented on it or something. She was saying that if you take fully nekkid pics of your own kid and try to have them developed, there are photo stores that will report you. I was shocked at how things have changed in our society. It's sad really.

Yeah you didn't hear about it in the news? It happened to a young couple and it was a huge clusterfrak. I was an awesome babysitter when I was younger, but babies were a hard limit. Haha.

We have changed the boy countless times in the back of our Ford Escape. Sometimes it is a whole lot easier to do it that way than trying to go into a bathroom with a changing station. Also, our guys likes to jump around during the process so having two people (one to hold and one to clean) makes it not become a nightmare. Since most bathrooms are simply male or female, the back of the car allows for a team effort and usually more sane parents. LOL.

I have to say, I've changed a lot of diapers for someone without any offspring of their own, and I've never seen a kid that wiggly! Sounds like you've got quite a handful!! I can't wait to see you all again. :)

When they went, they got changed. Of course, I also nursed the kids wherever we were when they got hungry. Best story that's sorts related.....kid # 1, right after being potty trained & allowed to go on his own, got himself stuck in the zipper of a pair of jeans.....after extraction he looks at me, says "mommy, it still hurts....kiss aren't you going to kiss it better"......Uuuummmmm NO. Did I mention we were in the mall at the time?

At the same time, a friend of mine with a 3 year old just showed me a video of her son - think Risky Business, with a strategic guitar.....my first comment was "you know that could be considered porn......it's a sad thing.
