Skeleton lady. PRETTY. This makes me want to try that kind of shading technique now. I've never used a light source to bring out the picture, only to cast shadows on what was already show as being visible in good lighting. Hmm. *thinky thoughts* Is that charcoal, by the way? And if so, how did you get the sepia tint to the paper in the lighter parts?
Yup charcoal, and graphite. I have Painter 11, and I used the surface lighting function, selected warm illumination which gave it the warmer colors, and set two light sources near the bottom right to give it that direction of illumination. And then I think I used iPhoto to darken the colors a bit by 2.
Thanks, and hope you post whatever it is you come up with! And I haven't forgotten about your fanart, hee. Though I've been tempted to also try a Uhura/Gaila one.... :D
"Though I've been tempted to also try a Uhura/Gaila one...." THAT WOULD BE AWESOME TOO. My complaints, there are none. :D
"hope you post whatever it is you come up with!" I'm more of a casual artist; I don't do near as much sketching in my free time as I'd like, mostly because that's when I write. Most of my art-making occurred in high school. Use of references was always encouraged-- required on some projects, as a matter of fact-- so I don't have a lot of skill at drawing from my mind. Practice needed, I think. Charcoal was always my favourite medium. I'd have to get a decent supply if I ever decided to start drawing again. I do have one sketch of Riotverse Uhura that I'm working on, but it's still pretty bare bones and I haven't dug it out for a while. Man, where did my art class work ethic go to? lol.
