Hmmn. I have a question: how can they tear down a historical landmark? Is it officially designated as a landmark? I know that around here being designated as a landmark means they have to keep their hands off.
Oh hell. I might be able to help you with this. What's the local paper's name? Better than a letter to the editor, by the way, is for you to talk to someone on the news desk of your local paper and get them to send out a reporter/photographer. If your grandmother literally chained herself to the porch, maybe there are pictures in the paper from then. While you never know what a paper will do, they'd be dumb as a box of rocks to *not* track down a story where "grandmother chains herself to house so church doesn't raze it for parking lot -- granddaughter threatens to do the same."
I don't understand how they can tear it down, with it being a historical landmark either..and yes, there is a sign in front of it stating that it is. The name of the local paper is "The Pontotoc Progress" Which i find funny because the only progress going on in this town is bad. I'll go to the library and look through the micros' to see if i can find a pic or article from when she did it. I pretty much know everyone who works at the paper(SMALL town omg) and i know they will do a story. I just need to do this the smart way and not come off as a crazy lunatic on a rampage to save a 150yr old house that no one cares about.

Call them rather than write them.
