his company laid off about 5000 workers total. i'm astonished.

I'm sorry too. My dad's contract at his school was not renewed and he decided he's just going to retire early. He seems okay financially, but I have to admit that I'm really worried about how he's going to do emotionally. It seems like men put a lot more stock in their careers, and I just worry about him being alone and not having anywhere to go during the day.
