This is really sad. I always sort of hoped he might get it together one day and release one (or more) really great albums a la Johnny Cash or Bob Dylan (who will be living for decades and decades, if all my dreams come true,) and maybe be more candid about how he felt his early years affected him (or just, you know, explain the whole "Peter Pan" thing a little.) I guess I felt like he was living in a lot of pain, and I kind of hoped he might have some kind of breakthrough and use it for art or find happiness somehow.
Anyway, he was kind of a strange guy, but innocent until proven guilty. And the music is undeniable.
I was holding it in pretty well until they started playing I Want You Back (of all songs!) on CNN and I started dancing and my heart totally broke.
My mom and I were watching the coverage and the people gathering around the hospital and I said to her, "When Chris Brown or Usher or any of these other chuckleheads dies, do you think LA is going to shut down?!" I mean, really. This is one of those "where were you when" moments.
Oh my god. I remember renting this from Blockbuster on either NES or Sega Genesis back in the day and I could NOT GET PAST THE FIRST SCENE. Like, not even the first level. I think it starts out on the bottom level of the warehouse or something, and I could never figure out how to get upstairs so I just stayed on the first floor making him dance and kick and stuff.
