ETA: I'm not pimping her out; she's offered me temporary room and board a few times and I never took her up on it so I don't see where she'd have a problem housing you for a bit.
Can you talk to whoever does your scholarship? Or NYU housing? Tell them you can't be in the program if you have no place to stay. They obviously want you there, so maybe you can make them work for it a little.
Ummmm...last resort, call Neil Gordon. I swear to God, he might be able to help. Tell him you're a real, actual, potentially-successful Lang student from a non-wealthy background, does he have any ideas of where you can turn for help? Also, Deborah. Just think: if you were a professor-type, and one of your former students called for help, you'd try to do what you could for them, right? They'll try to help if they can.
Call everybody, man. For a free ride to NYU grad school, I'd even call Bill Jerkface A_____ and apologize. Having shame at this point is unnecessary.
