I haven't been wanting to think about this (because I love my tiny purple Ford Ranger), but I probably should. My current vehicle is 14 years old and is over 130,000 miles, so it's sort of inevitable that, sooner or later, I will need something new (or newish). The question is, what

I love my Scion xD. With the back seats folded down, I was able to pack everything for Pennsic. I get minimum 28 mpg, and highway it's more like 40 (and that's with an automatic). It's well rated on safety, iirc (that was one of my criteria). Plus, they're only about $17,000 new. I got mine slightly used and it cost me about $14,000.

Plus, it has a USB port that keys into the stereo so I can use my ipod directly through the stereo controller.

Thanks! I'm poking around, and so far the Scion does look like a really solid option. I'm also getting recs for the Yaris and Fiat. Maybe I'll go do a test drive one of these weekends.

The Fiats I've seen are Gorgeous, but only 2door.

I know a number of people with Scions, all of whom seem pretty happy with them.

I don't know much about those cars/models, but I've had rental Hyundais before and really liked them. I've never been in a Scion or known anyone who has had one. I know many people LOVE their Yaris.
