Name meanings

Aug 13, 2005 00:01

A little more for my personal amusement, but these are the meanings behind some of the names (and I actually didn't know these until now).

Gareth: gentle, enclosure, watchful
Aerin: Ireland, Peace
Raziel: "Name means "Secret of God." Raziel is said to stand very near to God, so he hears all Divine conversations about universal secrets and mysteries. Raziel wrote these secrets into a document that he gave to Adam, which eventually ended up in the hands of the prophets Enoch and Samuel. Call upon Raziel whenever you wish to understand esoteric material, or to engage in alchemy or manifestation."
Marcus: Defender
Lissa: Bee, honey
Alek: Defender of man, warrior
Enrico: Ruler of the household
Kinara: seven candle candlestick holder used during Kwanza
Erik: Honorable ruler
Yana: he answers, bear
Teriana: Havester, abbreviation of Teresa
Aidia: Help

Gareth: That actually fits really well. Pretty much all three words describe who he is.

Aerin: interesting because her name means peace, and it's what she wants, but her way of gaining peace is through war.

Raziel: The meaning behind his name is really interesting, but it has no real connection between his name and character.

Marcus: He's the unofficial leader of a farming community and stands up for several people throughout the story. Fits really well.

Lissa: I had to look up the name "Melissa" for her, but for the sake of the story, her name is Lissa. Bee, honey... can't really see any real relation between the name and the character.

Alek: It fits considering he's a commander.

Enrico: If he was the ruler of the Kanjadu tribe, this would have fit nicely.

Kinara: Didn't know that. ^^; But no meaning between the name and the character.

Erik: Directly fits. Erik was supposed to be the ruler of the Aquila tribe (not a spoiler since I do mention this in chapter 7) and probably would have been a good ruler.

Yana: Um... not sure about this one. "Bear" was the Native American meaning (an a male's name in this case). You could make some stretches between her name and character.

Teriana: The Teresa that comes to mind is Saint Teresa, Little Rose/flower (Random fact: This is where my middle name comes from actually) and according to legend, upon her death, roses rained down from the sky. But she was a person who just wanted to help others. I think with that in mind, it fits quite well.

Aidia: Well... she can be a helpful person, but also needs a lot of help. Bit of a stretch though.
