To give people an idea of what people have faced over the last few days, here's some photo's and a quote from one of the pathology officials trying to deal with the magnitude of the destruction.

"When asked how long it would take, advisor Greg Hough said: "Imagine drawing a line across a third of Victoria and and try and estimate how long it ( Read more... )

It's the worst natural disaster to hit our State.
My work friend has lost her house and my SIL bff has lost family ar Kinglake.
I had to drive though some of the areas and it was just awful.
I hope things don't get much worse.

I think it's the worst natural disaster in all of Australia's history actually... the most Australian lives lost outside of war. Where do you find the words to even start describing something that is beyond horrific?

I know... it's just... words don't go far enough.
I have to say I'm worried about the fire near Bendigo- Kyneton is towards us. If the Macedon ranges go up there will be no stopping it.
When I was up in Shepparton we couldn't leave as the highway was closed, and when we could leave the drive was eerie- smoke everywhere and huge areas just decimated by the fires. And to think many of them have been deliberately lit :(

I've been thinking about you and I'm SO glad you're ok!!
Also, who's stupid enough to start a fire in drought in the summer??

unfortunately that's the time the arsonists always pick - especially 47 degree days with 80-100km gail-force winds to fuel the fires :S

I cannot imagine what I'd say to the various buggers who have been starting and, from reports I've heard, restarting the fires. I mean, to purposely cause destruction that enormous and that complete? I don't think I'd even have the emotional energy to swear at them in any of the several languages whose swear words I know.

Keep baby's little lungs safe, yeah?
