Why do men get pissy when I won't open the door for them? I mean, really, I just have to vent because this has happened twice yesterdeay and it's really getting to me. First time, it's an officer. He's still after my neighbors for god knows what, and he knocks on my door to ask if I've seen them. So

I have to admit, it never really occurs to me that there might be someone knocking at my door I don't know. Of course, I'm almost never home alone when someone knocks, but I've taken some packages before. I can't see through my peephole either because I don't have any central vision. But it never occurs to me to look, possibly because it's so surprising and gratifying to me to have someone knock on the door. Also I still have a knee-jerk reflex: if it bangs, peeps, rings, honks, or jingles in a way to let me know something, I MUST stop it. The microwave beeps? I need to open the door and take out the food/drink/item. The phone rings? I have to pick it up before I even look at the caller ID, because it's so hard for me to see it that the answering machine will catch the caller before I can identify them and I MUST STOP THE RINGING! Working at Arby's was a nightmare: all those buzzers and alarms I wasn't supposed to do anything about. And worse, the ones I WAS supposed to do something about, but all going off at once

What you could always do is just buy a shotgun and keep it loaded and by the door. That way, whenever you have to open it, you have a loaded shotgun pointed at whoever's outside. It'd probably discourage people some. Might not be a good idea with police officers though.
