Please, Madame, Entertain Us

Autumn is well into full swing now. The foliage is past peak and the cold rains have set in. We had some nice wind last night.

A few days ago, Persephone took me to West Chesterfield, NH, on our way back from meeting Jason and Grant of Ghosthunters [>link], to MME Sherri Forest -- the site of Madame Antoinette Sherri's (b. Antoinette Berandi in Paris, France) castle-style home. In 1962, it burned down. Local rumors place the home as being host to wild parties, sexual debauchery and as a brothel. While the brothel legend is borne of her eccentric exploits (riding around Bennington, VT wearing nothing but a fur coat, entertaining bootleggers at wild parties, etc.) and her taking of the title Madame, some debunk this with Ms. Sherri's affection for the Broadway play 'Madame Sherry'. Either way, the site is incredible.

The foliage on the short trail and around the ruins was at peak when we went. Leaves blew from trees and surrounded us while the colors entertained our eyes and the scents of the woods tickled our noses. You get the feeling from the site that something very aware hangs around. I took some nice photos of the stonework remains and archway staircase.
