In all seriousness...I mean, like, say person A promises that...they won't punch person B in the face (I swear, I swear, this is hypothetical). And then the next day they punch person B in the face.
So when they promised that they wouldn't, they were lying, weren't they?
I think that the moment you say the words "I promise," you are setting yourself up for a lie. Things change, people change, ideals change. To bind yourself to one course of action is stupid.
And broken promises, a nice way to say a lie. At least in most cases. But maybe I'm just bitter.
When someone purposelly breaks a promise or lies while making a promise than obviously yes, but if it's a promise that you just can't help ( "I promise I'll love you forever...") noone can control that. But If my mom said I promise you can go to warped tour next year as long as you have a 3.25 gpa and then I get the grades and she says no, that is a lie.
yeah it's not like one of those "I promise I'll love you forever" promises, I wouldn't have believed that anyway, it's just a little simpler than that...but yeah.
Yup, I agree. If the person had no intention of keeping the promise, it's a lie. Promises shouldn't be made lightly. It's hard to answer this, since so much of it depends on the situation.

I'll give both (or three, really) choices, actually.
1st choice, when person A promised person B they wouldn't punch them in the face, they fully intended to keep that promise, but then they didn't.
2nd choice, person A really had no intention of keeping the promise.
3rd choice, person A probably intended to keep the promise, but didn't really care either way.
